  1. Mix ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly wider than your buns. Make a small indent in the centre of each.

  2. Heat a cast iron pan or grill over high heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side for medium, pressing gently only once.

  3. Place a cheese slice on each patty in the last minute of cooking. Cover the pan briefly to melt.

  4. Toast the buns cut-side down in the pan for 1 minute.

  5. Assemble burgers with sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, patty, and top bun. Serve immediately.
